Week 4 Story: The forgotten Child of God

I awoke to a voice from above “Hello my child”. Looking around at everything around me, I could not believe my eyes. I couldn’t believe my EYES!? My eyes? Not only did I have no memory of ever laying eyes on my surroundings, I had no memory of anything in life. “It was as if I had just been….poofed into existence” I thought to myself. “That is because today is the day I hath created you Eve. After creating a world full of plants and animals, I had decided to create beings in my own image. You Eve, are this world’s first woman” spoke the voice hearing the thoughts from Eve. “What? Who… who’s there?” Eve asked the voice. “I am God” another being said behind Eve. Eve turned to look at the source of the sound and when she turned around she saw a marvelous sight. A being of pure light that brought warmth into every part of Eve’s being. Although this seemed to be her first day of existence, Eve knew that she would never again look upon an existence as beautiful as the one that currently lay before her. “Do not worry my child, I shall make a mate for you so that you are not alone on this earth” said God. And as the being spoke, dust and soil began to swirl around Eve and before her eyes came a new being with an Angelic face, Eve witnessed the creation of man. “This new being is called man, and this particular man I shall call, Liam” spoke God.

Liam and Eve spent the next few months together, however tensions began to arise. Liam was angry that it appears Eve was God’s favorite, and that he did not have the same liberties Eve did. And on the 5th night of the eighth month of his existence, Liam left the garden saying “I will make sure no man or child of God is ever happy”. Eve awoke to find her mate missing, and she wept for his loss. “What am I going to do now, I shall spend an eternity alone” Eve said to God. “Do not fear my child, I shall create you a new man, a better man, and you shall have no memory of that demon” said God as he appeared before her in the form of a man. He waved his hand over Eve’s eyes and she fell unconscious before his feet. Placing his hand over her chest, he took from her a rib bone to use in the creation of a new man. After creating the new man from the rib of Eve and the soil of earth, he then woke up Eve. “My child, this shall be your mate for life my child, he has been made from the bone of your own existence and shall be with you forever” spoke God. And Eve looked upon a being she had never seen before, but somehow the being had familiarity in her eyes. “This is man, and his name is Adam” said God. And he began to lay down the many rules of his garden hoping that both of them were happy as long as they held true to his rules.

Author's Note: I wanted to do a Gender swap just because it seemed as though it would be a much better typical story. Howver, the name Lilith did not seem to be an interchangeable name, so I changed Lilith's name to Liam hoping to keep the first two letters Li the same. The name Liam I chose specifically because of Joss Whedon's character Angel from Buffyverse. Because of Lilith's story of how she became a demon, I wanted to pic a similar name in my mind that started as a human and became a Demon, and the story of Liam to Angelus came to my mind. Well that's why I chose the name Liam. I hope you enjoy my story.

  1. Jake, I was totally taken back by the fact that God created Eve first. I really enjoyed the gender swap and would love to see the story line go further into the gender swap. Meaning, instead of Eve getting Adam to eat the forbidden fruit, changing it to Adam. It would be interesting to figure out what curse God would put on men since this is considered the reason why women have to bear the pain of child birth. I did not really understand the introduction of Liam and where he went. This may have been from the original story but I could not figure out where it was and an explanation was not given in the author’s notes. Why was Liam created before Adam? Does he just go off into the world and live alone? Does he start his own family? Does God create a new woman for him? Why does God not get him and bring him back? I think a conclusion of Liam’s personal storyline could help close up the confusion with that character. Great story!

    1. Sorry for the poor author's notes, allow me to clarify. In the original story, God created Adam, and a woman named Lilith. Lilith began to be jealous of Adam and eventually left the garden and was later known as a demon who killed babies. In order to make sure the next woman he created was not the same as Lilith, God chose to make Eve from the rib of Adam.

    2. Jake, I was also confused because I did not read this story. Maybe next time give a little bit more detail on the original story. I realized I did not do that very well in my first story. I would have liked to see the story continue a little bit more. After reading your response to the other persons comment I understand your take a little bit better and really like how you got creative with the original plot of the story.

  2. Hey Jake, what a great twist on a familiar story. I think the gender swap was really creative and a modern way of thinking about how this story could have been. It could be cool adding more onto this story to have it coming from Liam's point of view and what happened to him after he disappeared. Or even, what happened after he created Adam to the pair and how the world was different based on this different creation story. Overall, this was very creative, keep up the great storytelling!
