Week 2 Story: Susanoo, God and Dragon Slayer

Image
Long ago in ancient Japan, Susanoo, God of the storm of Summer and brother to the Sun Goddess Amaterasu found himself walking along a river bank in. Unexpectedly a chopstick was spotted by him flowing down the river and he wondered to himself who could possibly live this far up the mountain. As he continued his way further up the mountain he found an old man with two women, one in each arm the three holding each other tightly. Intrigued, Susanoo approached them and said to them “Hello there, are you Gods or Mortals”? The old man lifts his head to meet the gaze of the swordsmen that had approached them revealing tears falling down the old man’s face as though he has been crying for days. "Great swordsmen, I am the god Ashinadzuchi , son of the Mountain God, this is my wife Tenadzuchi and our daughter Kushinada-hime (hime is the suffix added onto the name of a princess) the old man said, barely able to get the words out. Troubled by the old man’s tears, Susanoo asked them why they

Readin Notes: What I think I'll write about this week

Image
For my story telling this week I think that I will retell the sotry of Susanoo, the Japanese storm god and his battle against the Serpent Orochi. As mentioned before Japanese culture and history are one of my favorite things to learn about and even tell people about. I often rant on about just the little things I know and I hope that I will be able to retell this story in such a way that my readers are captivated and can imagine the events transpiring right before their eyes. Reading Options

Image
After going over the Units for this semester, I have selected the three that most interest me. The British, Asian, and European Units. The reason I would like to study these is because of the myths I already know about and more that I would like to learn about. I am looking forward to these sections during the semester especially learning more about King Arthur. Time Strategies

Image
Initially, I had said I will spend two hours a day three days on this class however, because of how much time I actually have each day I may spend around an hour and ten min every day in the mornings on this class. In truth it is all going to depend on what I need to get done that week in this  class and others. If I need the extra time for other classes then I will spend a lot of time in few days to get this classes assignments done and then other mornings I can focus on the course that I have extra work in. If my work load is light then I'll probably work on this class a little bit each day rather than spend so much time in one day that I just feel drained and not want to do anything for the rest of the day. Technology Overview

Image
I look forward to using all of this technology during the semester project and I actually had no idea that google released a tool to create a web site! I'm actually looking forward the most to learning how to use that proficciantly so that I can make a site for my Esports Team! Looking forward to learn how to use this tool as more of the others throughout the semester. RYZED GAMING

Assignments

Image
My first impressions from this week are that this class should be an easy course as far as getting the work done. I say this because with my schedule I have from 8:00 am-12:30 or 1:00 pm everyday to work on or complete any assignment I have in this class while my afternoons I still have plenty of time for my other courses. As far as completing the work I have a very open schedule to work on assignments. After looking at the storybooks I am very interested in reading all the different tales that others will research as well as looking into the readings for this class. Mythology is something I enjoy a lot and I love learning more detail about myths that I am already interested in and learning more detail. I am very happy that in so far, this class is what I was hoping it would be! HOW I FEEL ABOUT THIS CLASS Photo from Memegenerator.net

My thoughts on Growth Mindset - Ted Talk

Image
I have never heard of Carol Dweck until now, however I do think her talk on Growth Mindset is one that many people all over should listen in on. She talks about how praising someone for their intelligence needs to stop and I agree with it for many reasons. First, people that are intelligent know that they are and do not need people to recognize that for them, rather they want the work they are doing and their accomplishments to be what people notice. At the same time however, praising someone for completing something itself whether it was easy or hard sets up the one who is praised with the belief of always getting some form of praise when they do a good job. I played sports all my life and as a child to even now one of the things I believe needs to stop is "Participation Trophies". At the end of the sports season, only the top three teams should be rewarded with trophies getting bigger the better a team does within the top three. By giving everyone a trophy it rewards those

Introduction to a Comm Major's Gamer Life

Image
Hello everyone,  My name is Jake Compton and I am a Senior Communication Major. I have been in college since FA 2012 and have changed my major a few times starting with Chemical Engineering, moving to Finance, and finally settling on Communication. Initially I went to The University of Tulsa and played football my freshman year, but the struggles of football plus Chem E. was a lot to handle and I ended up transferring out and going to community college for a while. Finally making my way to OU as a Finance major however after doing very bad in Calc 2  I finally switched to Communication. Lucky for me, I want to be a sales rep. for a chemical company such as Chevron Phillips, Exxon, Shell, etc. and there are many majors that I can use to achieve that. After quitting football I was looking for something to do competitively and my brother introduced me to Magic: The Gathering and I have been playing that semi-competitively since 2013 and plan on being more competitive after graduation. Story Book Favorites

Image
The first Storybook that caught my attention was one given to me by the randomized system. It was titled Magical Mermaid Tales and my initial thought of the subject was that it might be a story on the original Little Mermaid which was later turned into a children's movie by Disney. Wanting to know more about what this story was about, I chose this as the first Storybook to look at. I favorite part about this storybook was how the writer was able to find and use pictures that a lot of people would immediately correlate to the Disney movie, giving them a sense of familiarity and wanting to continue reading. The imagery in this post ranged from real life photos to artist paintings. The layout of the story was very beach/ocean based color scheme to match and was done beautifully. Little Mermaid   The next storybook that caught my attention was The Sherwood Investigators . Similarly to the first story, this one caught my eye out of a familiarity and wanting to know more about t

Week 1 My Favorite Place

Image
My Favorite Place Writing about my favorite place is an odd topic for me because I have yet been able to go and see it in person. Having traveled to almost all of Europe when I was younger because of my father's work, my favorite location is not even among the places I have been. Edo Castle is easily my favorite place and it is easily the one place I would love to visit if I am ever able to go to Japan. Japanese culture and history is something I have deep respect and admiration for and going to Edo Castle in Tokyo is something I have wanted to do for many years.                                                                                                        Edo Castle, Tokyo, Japan   Edo Castle
