Story Book Favorites

The first Storybook that caught my attention was one given to me by the randomized system. It was titled Magical Mermaid Tales and my initial thought of the subject was that it might be a story on the original Little Mermaid which was later turned into a children's movie by Disney. Wanting to know more about what this story was about, I chose this as the first Storybook to look at. I favorite part about this storybook was how the writer was able to find and use pictures that a lot of people would immediately correlate to the Disney movie, giving them a sense of familiarity and wanting to continue reading. The imagery in this post ranged from real life photos to artist paintings. The layout of the story was very beach/ocean based color scheme to match and was done beautifully.

The next storybook that caught my attention was The Sherwood Investigators. Similarly to the first story, this one caught my eye out of a familiarity and wanting to know more about the topic of Robin Hood and his Merry men in Sherwood Forest. Well sucks for me because this only talked about Robin for a couple of sentences. The main focus of this was Robin's protege, Roger Godberd. The layout of the story book was much simpler and the images used seemed as though they were from books rather than actual photographs or hand paintings. It had a very sleek look to the layout, using the color green as it's primary. Whether this was done because the writer liked the color green or because Robin and Roger often wore green to blend into the forest is unknown, however the layout was very smooth and simple, yet I believe more could have been done.

Finally we reach the third and final story book, The Brother's Grimm: An Unexpected Visitor. Based off of the initial photo on the home page, it gives the appearance to be the story of Rapunzel, however the that's just to grab the attention of the audience. The actual story book itself is a collection of stories by the Brothers Grimm. The introduction page was beautifully written and lets the reader know the adventure they are about to take and the stories they are about to read as well as a brief history over the Grimm fairy tales.
